Overview
Large merchant, residuals, and other report exports can take time to generate and may interrupt your workflow while they are processing.
Background exports allow users to start an export and continue working while the report is generated on the server. Once the export is complete, users receive a notification and can access the generated file directly from the notification or from the Export History page.
Prerequisites
The BACKGROUND_EXPORT flag must be enabled on your site before background exports can be used.
If the feature is not enabled, contact Support to request that it be enabled for your site.
Navigating to Export History
To view and manage generated exports, navigate to Manage → Logs → Export History.
How do background exports work?
Start an export using the standard export process. After the export is initiated, the report continues processing on the server, so you do not need to remain on the page while it is generated.
A notification and progress bar appear after the export begins.
When the export is complete, what happens next depends on whether you remain on the original page:
- If you are still on the page, the generated Excel or CSV file automatically downloads to your Downloads folder.
- If you have navigated away, a second notification appears when the file is ready. Use the notification to access the generated export.
Generated exports are also saved on the Export History page so you can access them again later.
How to manage completed exports
The Export History page provides access to exports performed on your site and includes options for downloading, restarting, and filtering export jobs.
Restart or download completed exports
- Navigate to Manage → Logs → Export History.
- Locate the export you want to manage.
- In the Actions column, select one of the following options:
- To download the generated file again, click the Download icon.
- To run the export again, click the Refresh icon. The export restarts using the same parameters as the original export.
Filter exports by report type
Use the Report Type filter on the Export History page to narrow the list and find a specific type of report more quickly.
