Overview
Merchant Central gives you extensive control over how lead information is organized, displayed, and managed. Using lead tabs and fields, you can structure lead pages around your business processes, control which information users can access, and configure fields to support faster and more consistent data entry.
Most lead tabs are used to group related lead fields, such as the fields that make up Business Information or Owner Information. This helps organize lead data into logical sections and makes it easier for users to find and work with the information they need. The fields within these tabs determine the information users can enter or view and can be configured with different field types, permissions, formatting, and other settings.
Some tab types serve a different purpose and provide specific functionality, such as taking payments, creating invoices, managing documents and notes, generating web forms, and accessing other built-in features.
This article explains how to create, edit, delete, reorder, and configure lead tabs and fields. It also covers managing tab and field permissions, moving and arranging fields on the lead page, working with protected special fields, and safely removing fields that are used in web forms.
You will also learn about field options, Copy buttons, and autofill features for addresses, SIC codes, and bank names based on routing numbers.
Prerequisites
Before managing lead tabs and fields, make sure you have:
- The appropriate permissions to create, edit, or delete lead tabs and fields.
- Access to an administrator who can enable the WEB_FORM_LEAD_FIELD_CLEANUP feature flag if you want Merchant Central to display warnings when deleting fields used in web forms.
Navigating to tab and field management
Lead field management in the CRM is organized into two main areas.
The Manage Lead Field Tabs page provides an overview of all available tabs. From this page, you can add, remove, reorder, and configure tabs, including their visibility and permissions.
From each tab, you can open a separate page to manage the individual lead fields assigned to that tab.
To open the Lead Tabs management page:
- Open the main navigation panel on the left.
- Go to Leads → Manage Lead Fields.
The Manage Lead Field Tabs page displays the lead tabs configured for your site. Each tab includes shortcuts for managing its settings and permissions, as well as adding or removing fields.
💡You can also access this page directly from the lead's Actions tab by clicking Manage Fields.
How does lead tab and field management work?
Lead tabs organize related lead information into sections, such as Business Information, Financial Profile, and other custom tabs. Lead fields define the individual pieces of information that users can enter or view within those sections.
Partners can customize tabs and fields to match their workflows and control access using user class permissions. Depending on the configured permissions, individual tabs or fields can be visible, hidden, required, or read-only for different users.
Fields can also include additional functionality, such as tooltips, hyperlinks, duplicate checking, ZIP Code AutoFill, dialing, and more. Available options depend on the selected field type.

Deleting a field used in a web form

- Open the new field's properties and select the appropriate value from the Special dropdown.

Special fields
Fields with certain Special settings are protected because they serve specific purposes within the CRM and should not be removed. For example, you may have multiple Email fields on a lead, but only one is considered the primary email field for the client. This is the field assigned the Email Special setting.
The Email special field is used by default in different parts of the system. For example, when an e-sign application is generated from the lead, the email address from the Email special field is used by default.
Similarly, the Merchant ID special field is automatically passed to the MID field in TurboApp when merchant boarding is initiated, even if you have multiple MID fields on the lead.
Special fields are designated using the Special dropdown in the field settings.
Once a field is assigned a Special setting, it cannot be unset directly from that field's settings. If needed, you can reassign the Special setting by selecting the same Special on another lead field.
The following Special fields are available:
- Business Information: Display Name, Legal Name, Business Address, Business City, Business State, Business Zip Code, Business Country, Business Type, Business Products, Business Market Type, Business Start Date, Phone, Cell Phone, Email, Website, Sales Number, SIC Code, Tax ID, Processor

Owner Ownership Percentage, Owner IP Address - Contact information: Contact Name, 2nd Contact Name, 3rd Contact Name
- Bank and financial information: Bank Name on Account, Bank First Name, Bank Last Name, Bank Account Type, Bank Account Owner Type, ABA Code, Account Number, Routing Number, Bank Name, Bank City, Bank State, Bank Zip, Maximum Ticket
