The web form's default templates feature enables you to automatically populate the form with predetermined values (for example specific rates and fees).
When you add a template to your web form a new public URL is generated automatically for that template, and you can then share the URL with your clients.
After a client opens the URL they will see the web form automatically filled in with the information from the associated template.
In addition to sharing the web forms via URL links, you can also embed the web form template directly on your website.
In both cases, you can control the color scheme and the logo that appears on the web form. More info: Web Forms - Branding
Continue reading to learn how to create default templates in your web forms, and then share the forms via URL links or by embedding the form in your site.
Adding a Default Template
In this example we'll show you how to create two default templates, one for retail and the other for B2B merchants.
To begin adding a new template to a web form open the web form builder, and click the Edit Defaults button:
Next, click the Add New button in the Manage Defaults sidebar on the left, enter the name of the template, and click Add.
In this example we're naming our template 'Retail':
Repeat the previous step to add one more template called 'B2B'.
Once you're done, you'll see the two templates in the defaults sidebar:
Next, click on the 'Retail' template to select it. You can now begin entering and/or selecting the default values on your web form.
When you're done click the Save button to save your changes:
Note: The Manage Defaults sidebar shows the template you selected in grey color, to indicate that this is the template that's currently being edited.
Repeat the previous step to update the 'B2B' template values too:
Creating Shareable Web Form Links
With the two templates configured, you now need to create an URL link for each of the templates so that you can share the links with your clients.
To create the URL links, go back to the web forms management page and click the Share Form button on your web form:
In the popup window that appears, click Add New:
Another popup window now appears where you can configure the link settings.
Select the 'Link' share type, enter 'Retail form' in the Name field, select the 'Retail' template in the Defaults Template dropdown, and save your changes:
Repeat the previous step to create a new link for the B2B template too.
Note: If needed, you can also select the lead automation options on your links to assign incoming leads received from the web form to a selected group or user. If your site is set up with custom properties, you can also automatically assign a selected property to the incoming leads.
Note: To change the last part of the URL (which is auto-generated) to something else, click on the pencil icon in the Public URL field and then update the text:
Your two new links are now displayed in the Share General Application popup and you can manage them further using the shortcuts in the Actions column:
The Action column includes the options to delete a link, copy the link URL, and edit the link settings.
To copy a link simply click the Copy shortcut (the middle icon in the Actions column) and the link will be copied to your clipboard.
You can then preview the link in a new tab, and finally deploy it on a landing page or in other marketing channels.
Embedding a Web Form on Your Site
To embed a web form directly on your website begin by clicking the Share Form button on your web form:
In the popup window that appears select the 'Embedded' share type, enter the name of the form template, and select the required default template.
After that, select your form settings (such as fonts and colors) and the domains in which the form will be deployed.
When you're done, click Save & Generate Embed Code:
A new popup window now appears where you can select the type of code to generate:
After you select the code type, the code is displayed in the field below the dropdown and you can copy and paste it to your site:
After you exit the code settings you'll find the new share type in the main popup, and you can always edit it from there or copy the embed code (in the Actions column):
Note: The feature code (for MC admins) is WEB_FORM_EMBEDDABLE.
Deleting Default Templates
To delete a default template simply click the delete icon on the template in the Manage Defaults sidebar:
Note that you can only delete templates that are not being edited.
If a template is in edit-mode, it's shown in grey color and its Delete icon is disabled.
To enable it, simply click on a different template and then delete icon will be enabled again.
Also there has to be at least one default template set up on your webform (even if it's empty) so that if you start deleting all of your templates you won't be able to delete the final remaining template.
